I tried to post this yesterday but it somehow disappeared. I finally finished my kayak. I have built a few canoes before but this is the first kayak. I had never even been in a kayak before. I started at the end of November and completed it in May. I had a buddy spray it in his spray booth. I gave this one to my mother. She always wanted a kayak and I always wanted to build one. It worked out perfectly. I took it for a test drive a week and a half ago. It was amazing. I can’t believe how it glided through the water. After a while I noticed that it tracked to the right a little. I thought “All this work and it goes in circles!!!!!”. My legs also started to get a little numb so I pulled up to a sand beach and got out and readjusted the seat. I almost dumped it getting in and out though. I headed back to where I started and it tracked fine and my legs didn’t go numb. There were about a dozen people swimming where I launched from and they were all checking my kayak out. I paddled up all cool like I knew what I was doing. I nosed up onto the beach, sunglasses on the forehead, took a drink of bottled water, set the paddle down, pushed myself up out of the cockpit, left hand slipped and the next thing I knew I was laying on my side in six inches of water. I think my but is too big for the opening, there isn’t enough room for my thumbs and my rear end when I am trying to get out. So I have to make a choice. Spend the next nine months building a new kayak with a larger cockpit opening and drink beer while watching epoxy dry or spend the next 9 months getting into shape. Hmmmmmmm
