How close do you stand when you can see the 'glass? Do you think any casual onlooker will get that close when viewing your boat?
You don't want to sand into the glass,except when doing repairs. The 'glass layers are the main structural component of the hull.
One more thing. It's a boat not a piece of livingroom furniture.

: I fiberglassed the stems with three filler coats of epoxy and let it set. The
: fiberglass is clear but still shows. Do I lightly sand and fill the weave
: with more epoxy? I dont want to damage the fiberglass.
