This past Sunday I became the owner of a strip boat that has not had much tlc for a long time. I need to repair it and it will become my wife's boat. She would like it painted so the final product does not have to be all that pretty--it will be covered with paint.
I have been told this was the first boat built by Duane S.
I thought it would be a simple matter of fixing the few areas where the glass had lifted. I pulled of pieces that seemed to have lost their grip on the wood, figured it was better to get to the firm connection while on dry land.
There are a few areas where the wood has an almost black stain, but it seems to fairly sound. But then what do I know. There are areas where the resin has been weathered totally off the glass, I suppose UV damage.
The bottom of the hull is in much better shape and needs very little repair (I think)
So first question: How do I tell what glass needs to be removed? I planned on feathering the sound glass putting on patches and then fill coating the whole thing.
I have taken a few digital pictures which I will post if you can direct me to that how to do it. I am new to digital cameras as well.
The boat bug has bitten me good I now have three in the garage and one in the back yard.
Thanks for any suggestions I would like to learn what I am doing with a minimum of detours.
