If the above is true and you are a 170lbs paddler going for less than 10lbs cargo (racing only), how valid are these hydrodynamic estimates? I plugged in a 230lbs displacement into Bearboat SP with the S&G Night Heron parameters and suddenly my boat is competitive with the Epic 18X Sport and Stratus until 5mph. However, when using a displacement number of 290, the picture changes quite dramatically. I do question, whether using the lower displacement numbers is correct, since the drag numbers should be higher for the Night Heron given it's shorter overall water length.

Since I am paddling against the above kayaks, I am trying to figure out the size of the disadvantage I have due to the boat. If sizable, I'll build a new boat targeted at racing, if not, I better step up my training. ;-)
