transparent hulls

In Response To: S&G: Transparent acrylic hull (Simeon)

I've not seen transparent hard shell hulls made of material you describe, but I "have" seen pictures of a skin on frame transparent hull, made of some kind of clear plastic or PVC. It certainly was unique, as the paddler seemed suspended in thin air...and I can imagine the View...maybe cause for vertigo...however the worry that I had was hearing tales of kayakers making night crossings in an ocean, and getting "hits" from fish who were attracted to their glow sticks and head lights...in certain waters, I imagined that suspended kayaker would seem a lot like a fishing lure.

However, those glass bottom boats sure do provide a wonderful view.

A google for transparent kayaks took me to a site, www.sportsauthority.com, which advertised the Clear Blue Hawaii Transparent Kayak for a fee... and again, my first thought is of bait.

: I've been doing a little bit of work with clear acrylic of late, and spied
: some full 3mm sheets at the local supplier.

: Messing with solvent welding of the stuff caused me to wonder whether anyone
: had attempted to make a transparent S&G style kayak from anything similar.
: Careful welds, and a bit of careful sanding and polishing should yield
: quite an interesting (not to mention unique!) boat.
