I think most boats do it. Mine did. One of the re-skinnings I re-lashed it. Instead of putting the lashings on one side or the other of the deck beam, I made a loop around the seat beam, used two holes through the gunwalls and used the "H" lashing pattern. Much stronger way of lashing. I simply used a pull saw to make some groves in the front and back of the deck beam to hold the lashing in place. This is a good way of lashing the masik too. This type of lashing is only necessary on the seat beam and masik, the rest don't get that much tension.
