Here's one of mine, it is 1/4 inch thick and sticks out from the riser by 3/4 inch. it is 3/4 inch above the deck. The 3/4 inch gap between the bottom and the deck makes it a bit easier to sand/smooth the glass when applying. Be sure to use bias cut strips of glass so it will more easily conforms to the sharp bend under the lip. Any stray fibers sticking up after the lay-up can be removed with a carbide scraper.
