I like heavy nylon line in certain instances (sewing skin fabric) but not for lashing frames together. I had the same problems, but also found that it absorbs moisture and loosens, just like nylon skin fabrics, so previously tight lashings can become alarming loose.

As for sinew, I've been buying it at Hobby Lobby. The price on large spools is not as good as Jas Townsend, but easier for me to get on short notice.
