: I have a hard seat in my bought boat, and a moulded foam seat in
: my home-built boats. I've never found any need to pad out the
: fibreglass one, and I've probably sat in that for longer trips

: to land). The foam seats tend to start to get uncomfortable
: after a few miles as there is less air circulation in my pants
: and more insulation which makes it sweatier...

Actually might be more comfy than the fiberglass seats if you were careful to allow the wood to flex a little. I've still got NDK's grossly awful fiberglass seat in my Greenlander, but since I'll be selling it here sometime this year I'm not replacing it. The flat wood seats in my Yost boats all flex a little and that makes their flat surfaces fairly comfy and they have no shape at all.
