Hi Bill - I have the CD Expedition (kevlar) and really like the boat. Here's my impressions compared to other boats I have paddled:
1) It's big. We call it the floating gymnasiun. Plenty of room for camping gear and lots of freeboard for a dry ride. In rough water, I have to reach up a little to reach the underside of the deck with my knees (I'm 6' tall)
2) Very comfortable seat
3) Very fast (see link below)
4) It more of a performance boat than a work boat, so it's a little on the tippy side, but not quite as tippy and the expedition. Also, maybe not as maneuverable as what you need.
I really like it for trips - fast, comfortable, carrys lots of stuff, fast, handles rough water well but I'm not sure it's the best boat for the application you're talking about.
