I can't see any reason to get too fussy about the glue.

I have just used whatever I had handy and none of my kayaks seem to have suffered in any way as a result of that.

I have used Mitre 10 PVA wood glue, Selleys PVA wood glue and some very ordinary, very old PVA in a 4 litre container that was thrown out in someone's workshop cleanup.

Almost any wood glue is stronger than the timber.
