: Errors are generally slight, but I want to make sure that slight form
: imperfections won't get magnified in the finished boat. So, my question is
: whether it's OK to have a fairly fair set of forms, whether I should re-do
: them with more attention to detail, or whether I should order machine-made
: forms to ensure a boat that won't suck.
"Slight" is definitely in the eye of the beholder. I would recommend placing some strips on the forms in the areas where you think you have a problem. If you can see the unfairness, you might want to do some sanding of the high spots. Following the design perfectly is probably not as important as having a smooth boat. Asymmetry side to side might be a bigger problem, but once again unless way off should not be a cause for concern. If you try to start building then decide to shim the strips or something like that, I think that you will be pulling your hair out (and wind up looking like me :-) in the stripping process.
