: Porcupine Plain eh? That's about 105km ENE of the family farm, as the magpie
: flies. Not sure which lake in the area is 240' deep, but I can sure name a
: few that aren't!
I will have to find out some how where that 240' number comes from. Maybe a deep dive is needed...or a sinking...wondering if I can convert the old VJ into a submersible.
: Not sure, but the Red Deer River north of PP may be paddle-able when you're
: there. Normally a spring runoff river but water levels all over have been
: unusually high. I've paddled the stretch from Hudson Bay (the small town
: in Sask, not the large ocean bay of a similar name) to Erwood. Hey, I just
: had a thought - paddle Red Deer River to the town of Hudson Bay and call
: that leg of your journey complete!
I have wondered what the Saskatchewan version of Hudson Bay looks like...might have to drive down while I am there to find out. As for calling that HB the end of my river trip: only if there are polar bears there, eh! A part of the adventure is supposed to be frolicking with the great white carnivores (at a distance). I studied the Nelson River route last night while at work...now that all major rapids are dammed up, the paddle looks fairly uneventful. I am still considering using the Hayes River route, if and only if I can figure out how to get to the Hayes from Lake Winterpeg. I can tell by the maps and by Google Earth that if I make one wrong turn, I won't realize my mistake until I am wayyyyy off course. That could prove to be interesting but the time delay would make my employer rather unsettled, not to mention my g/f and the search and rescue teams sent to find me after I don't show up at Churchill during the expected time frame. The landscape around the Nelson River looks uninviting around the dams...more to think about, eh.
