Hi Dave,
I don't know the lay-out of that design, I was thinking that the QD levers were doing the holding down.
Have you any pictures of your set-up? A non-timber-crushing use of cam-levers sounds interesting. :D I've managed to crush 3/8" ply to less than a 1/4" but they were hangers for wheels on a trolley.
