A very interesting topic. I have put some thought into it and this is what I have come up with. Because of the mass of water, it takes some force to move that water and that force needs to increase to move the water faster. Think of a water skier moving very slowly as he takes off,he is quite unstable. As his speed increases, so does his stability and his skis are not moving the water much and therefore the water is supporting his weight more easily as his speed increases. Now suppose he puts more weight onto his left foot,and less on his right, he turns to the right.now if this were a kayak, the same forces and reactions must occur :- the boat rolls over on it's left side and the water pushes it up again until there is an equilibrium of weight on both sides of the boat.
Not a very scientific explanation and may contain errors, but what do you think.
