Last night at our moonlight paddle Susy realized she didn't have her paddle with her. I know that sick feeling because I have done that once. I offered to loan her one of my Greenland sticks and the look on her face and her comments told me she was convinced this was not going to work. She said something about being slow as it was how could she keep up using that!? Well maybe not using those exact words.

I encouraged her to try one before driving back home. As I have said I almost always have 3 or 4 GP's with me. So she tried my newest one but it was really to short for her wide Rec. boat. So I gave her mine and it worked better for her. I went back to the truck and drug out my favorite stick and let her use it.

After a while I could tell she enjoying it. We were both surprised but Susy was actually faster with the GP than her Euro paddle. Must be something to do with the fact she was in a Rec Boat? Got to say that I don't understand.

Funny thing is she was worried that she would be slower with that 'skinny' paddle. She said she found it easier to make her boat track straight and it was easier on her muscles. No surprise there. Before the night was over she was asking me about how to build one since she builds dulcimers she was sure she could. By the time we got back to the launch she told me to find the wood to build her one. She didn't want to wait!
