There aren't a lot of cutoffs here, because the hardwood suppliers won't cut their wood. Everyone buys what's on the floor. I did get a nice small piece of sapele once, it was in a pile of wood that was used for spacing palette piles.

Anyways, the re-sawing was a complete disaster. I tried several times to re-saw a 1"x7" board. I was never able to keep the board perfectly vertical, it required a much better/taller fence than what I rigged up. In particular, the final inch or two of the cut usually got quite screwy. Added to that was that I didn't feel particularly safe with my setup. Doing a 2-pass cut, the second cut had the top half of the plank being cut free with no support on it, leaving it free to kick back. I didn't have any kick-back but I wasn't convinced that I was completely avoiding it.

What I'd really like to do is find a supplier of nice 1/4" planed wood!
