I'm assuming you're making hatch rings like One Ocean does? I used clear adhesive shelf paper (plastic) to mask the deck when I did that, the wide plastic worked well containing the epoxy. Shouldn't be runny though, need to thicken it more. You can get the shelf paper at most large grocery stores.
