: In a standing position, the water exerts little pressure upon the sides of
: the hull. Once you get going, the pressure builds on either side and
: creates the sense of inscreased stability, which of course, there is. Slow
: down, lessen the water pressure on the sides of the hull and you are back
: to square one: a tippy craft. While I was waiting for the starter's gun
: during the World Masters Games back in 2005, I tipped over and swam. I got
: back in and, once the race started, did just fine as the kayak became more
: stable even though I was racing downstream. Paddling upstream provided for
: even better stability.

Hi Robert,

Thanks, finally a person understanded this. Suppose it takes someone used to very narrow kayaks to appreciate the feeling :)

Btw, the naval architects have no idea.

I'm thinking my current project will be much like this, right now it's tippy like a racing K1 at rest and undecked yet I don't want to push it and flip it, it's wood framed but will float fairly low in the water swamped so would be a very long swim back to shore ;)

Luckily it's overall beam is fairly easily adjustable (very unusual for a kayak).

Also getting the seat mounted lower will help alot, never padded one sitting 6" above the water before.
