My preference is a few glow sticks, necklaces or bracelets. Other kayakers can see me and they are not too bright. I also put a small florescent light inside my kayak. If you don't have a translucent skin-on-frame it won't do anything, but for me it makes the boat lightly glow. Fun stuff!
- and I do carry a bright flashlight for being seen my bigger crafts.
