Using the initial "wood core" as a plug is definitely a great idea, but for this first project I think it may just add too many variables. Basically, in wanting to build this design i was looking for as simple and quick of a build process as possible. I am essentially looking at using stitch & glue as a sort of rapid prototyping phase for trying out a design. In my list of priorities for this build, weight was not among the top of the list.

However, that definitely is a great idea for my next build....!!!! I've kind of also been looking at how my construction ideas are being perceived by some of the folks I know. With this first build, i quite likely overbuilding, but i will start to work things down going forward.

But a fun project it has been, no doubt. I'm really trying to take a bunch of boat building ideas I have learned from people's S&G and Strip built sea kayaks, and apply what is applicable to whitewater kayak construction. While the plastic boats are a great product for whitewater, composites do have their advantage. The most attractive thing to me about the way a lot of S&G and Strip built Long Boats are built, is that a lot of people simply overlap Glass Layers on the exterior, instead of just taping the seams. Not only is this nice from an aesthetic point of view, but i also believe it aids towards a more monocoque construction. So, while it is hard to explain with words, I intend to stagger where different layers of fabric meet and/or overlap from the Deck to the Hull with this build.

We'll see how it all goes. I've decided the time for experiental learning is now, and i need to apply some of the ideas I've gotten from books, and pouring over forums like this. And I'm looking forward to everything this build will teach me
