Hi Andy,
It works good because that is shock cord. I got a 100 feet from a West Marine that closed locally. I got it for a close out price of 10 cents a foot.
What I do is use spring clamps at the sheer and wrap it and re clamp the other end. I also use lots of masking tape. A heat gun helped with the tighter twists.
At the time I built it was hot here in Mississippi so the Tight Bond glue would dry quick. I could do a strip on one side then the next side and it would be dry enough to go again after 10 to 15 minutes.
The higher temps also helped in epoxy work. I could wet out the glass in the evening when the temps in my shop were falling. The epoxy would be hot 90 plus and go quick but it would wet the glass completely very quick. I would re coat the epoxy again in 4 hours and again in another 4 hours.
The pictures I posted were before final sanding and varnish. I like to wait about a month before the final sanding and finish. It never hurts to go paddle and break from the build while the epoxy reaches final cure.
