Sorry about the lack of specifics - empty touring boats, 17 - 18ft without rudders. Our thoughts now are to try using a motorized square-stern canoe as a mothership/supply boat for our extended camping trips. We typically are out for a week or so, and as we age (average age is 56), some of us due to assorted back/shoulder problems would prefer to either drive the canoe while towing his boat, or paddle nearly emptied (into the canoe) boats to our destination, from which we then day paddle out from, until we move to a new campsite. This is usually in Minnesota's BWCA, Lake Superior or Voyaguers NP. I would anticipate the motherships speed mostly matching the accompanying paddlers, so high speed wouldn't be an issue, and we'd most likely not try to tow more than one kayak, though using a "spacer/seperator" system to separate the boats might allow multiples.
