This is how I did mine. It's kind of the Yost way of doing it without using aluminum angles. I used some 5/8 plywood scraps and peg/epoxied them to the cross section and then peg/epoxied 1/4 oak bead board scraps that I had laying around. Later I coated them with epoxy and then varnished them.

I then drilled a couple of 1/4" holes and epoxied a couple of 3" dowels under the floor boards to keep them from sagging. I'm happy with them.
