Consider yourself as very lucky. Excess epoxy in a decent sized mass can catch fire and burn the shop/house down. If I get a mass like this I put it in a bucket of water and set it outside till it cools.

I've not had epoxy catch fire, but I've had several containers of polyester do it, scary.
