: I am yet another strip-build novice although I do have some carpentry skills.
: I built my first "fabric on frame" canoe when I was 13 and also
: some more recent stich and glue projects since then. I have bought both of
: Nick's recent books and look forward to the start of construction of the
: single-seat Guillemot this Winter for recreation next Spring. I would like
: any advice that I can get on any problems that I could experience with
: construction at low working temperatures. I am aware that typical PVA wood
: adhesive has cautions on use at low temperatures and I would like any
: advice on any of the changes of working with epoxy resins at low
: temeratures. By low temperatures, I am anticipating working in my garage
: in the Southern UK at between 6 and 0C (40 to 32F) using West System
: resins. I would also be very grateful for any advice on any other
: particular aspects of construction that I should be aware of in these
: conditions. I hope to keep both a written and photographic record of the
: construction progress and will make these available soon after the launch
: festivities.
I've not tried working at those temps, you can't reasonably work with epoxy at those temps so will have to wait till warmer weather to do that.
