Since both ends of the strip are captured top and bottom by the adjoining strips, yes there is not a strength issue so a butt joint would seem adequate.

This is probably only a theoretical question, but;
Would a custom made shooting box be the "ideal" way to do this for 1:10 on 1/4" stock ?
