I'm not sure about the overall volume of this boat... I too am tempted to build the F1 (Yost method or not) since I very much enjoy rough water. But there seems to be a little too much "boat" above water that I am not sure is needed in all areas. I would certainly want less behind my back but I am not yet sure about the bow.

I was just surfing yesterday in a similarly sized boat (Perception Sonoma 13.5, which is probably half a foot shorter, a lot slimmer in the bow as it is swede form, and about the same width of around 22" max). The only place I wished I had more volume or may be more flare instead was at the bow (would pearl a little here and there unless I leaned way back, in which case it was fine. But the waves were exceptionally steep (period of only 4-5 seconds for 3-5 foot waves with white caps) so perhaps most boats would pearl there... It did not pearl in ocean surf the last time I had a chance to surf it. And the relatively low volume front is a good thing - it does not jump up and then slam down hard but tends to slice thus maintaining good speed in chop.

On the F1, In the winds I paddled yesterday I'm not at all sure how all this above water volume would behave - it was sustained about 30 knots with gusts up to 40 and a boat with so much above water volume I would think a boat like the F1 will be affected by the wind more than I'd like to...

I'd be interested if someone has paddled one of these in windy conditions and steep waves to share their experiences.
