Looks as though wet sand works, then. This seat is very high at the
back, which may not be what you want.

1) If you are a boat control freak, you may want to add whitewater type
outfitting, which typically means a loose backrest with a ratchet system
to "lock" you in to the cockpit.

2) If you want a clean back deck on which your hatch access is not blocked
by your split paddles, you may prefer a hatch in the aft bulkhead. In that
case a loose backrest that can flip out of the way is a good idea.
