In Response To: Paddle: Greenland paddle questions (Roy)

: Sooo…… a few questions that are often discussed amongst paddle makers and
: paddle manufactures.

: Lets hear the verdict.

: Generally a Greenland paddle made of cedar weighs in the neighborhood of 27
: or 28 oz as the lightest and ranges up to maybe 42 oz. A Spruce one starts
: in a little heavier and ranges up to maybe 50 oz depending on the grain
: density…… a Carbon Greenland paddle can weigh anywhere from the 20 oz to
: the 32 oz mark, generally around the 27 or 28 oz. mark.

: Add a ferule to make a two piece and You add an oz or two
: Add another ferule to make a three piece or two more ferules to make a four
: piece

: Or the ultimate does all paddle….the five piece , the storm that can convert
: to a full length paddle or have several different sized add in loom
: sections to enable the paddle to be used by different, but like minded
: people.

: Each connection adds weight and expense and difficulty with the possibility
: of ruination of the entire paddle. Or at very least cosmetic sufferings.

: As You add ferules, You add carry feature for compactness.

: What is worth it for the paddling community? 2 piece? 3 piece? 4 piece? 5
: piece?
: 20 oz? 25 oz max weight? 32 oz max weight? 42 oz max weight? 52 oz max
: weight?

: And How much would the paddling community be willing to pay for portability?

: Some things will Never be produced except as specialty items, Because the
: public is unwilling to pay anymore than what is out there now….or it just
: makes them too heavy for the average paddlers?

: but is there anything that can? What is acceptable?

: Random thoughts that could make a difference in what becomes available.
: Paddle makers read this forum too.

: Best Wishes
: Roy

Too many variables to a GP to make it suit multiple people. The "blade" varies as does the loom length depending on the size of the paddler as well as the boat he/she paddles. The loom length is just one part that changes length. It's not a Euro paddle with different shaped blades.
