I mostly agree with this sentiment. Greenlanders like John Pederson told me he found one of Don Beale's WRC paddles to be very light. I think John uses mostly spruce paddles, if memory serves.

On the other hand, my attempt at sleeving a broken but pretty light WRC paddle with Soller Composites medium weight Carbon/Glass sleeve turned out far too heavy for long paddles. I really started to feel it on longer, more vigorous paddle excursions.

I have since belt sanded that sleeve off, and I am going to try a light weight sleeve, and try to manage my epoxy application far more aggressively.
