I started kayaking 4 years ago with a Cape Horn (15 ft x 24+/- in) and recently completed an S & G Cirrus LT (16 ft x 20+/- in). The Cirrus is much more fun to paddle in all conditions.
However there is one thing I miss about the Cape Horn, stability at rest. I can stop and take on or off, jackets and spray skirt to match changing conditions. I do not feel comfortable doing that in the Cirrus but with one paddle stroke it is instantly stable.

As I gain experience, is it possible that I will eventual feel more comfortable in the Cirrus while at rest - such as while taking photos and if not, is there a kit design that is a little more stable but does not give up too much in the other aspects that make the Cirrus fun to paddle? Or is it mostly a matter of a compromise between the two widths? (I am 5’10”, 155 lbs)

There is so much to learn about these wonderful boats...
