I just take scissors to a piece of cardboard and trim it till it fits and then transfer the outline to the wood. Bill is right, it's more fiddly than just adding a layer of glass but I wanted something to support my closure system and something to tie a tether to the hatch. I guess I also wasn't sure how much extra glass would be enough. The link includes a picture.
