So I figured I'd share with you all the near completion of the cockpit recessed area of my S&G whitewater build. I knew going into it that the cockpit recess would not only be the hardest part, but also the most important for the overall appearance and performance of the boat. The tricky part about this, is all of my design ideas were hand drawn, as FreeShip was proving difficult to properly model in the design. I figured instead of wasting time on the computer, I would just design the thing by hand and have at it.
The best trick I learned along the way, was that when trying to design and fit in these small pieces with relatively tight curves, using the wood grain of the Okoume plywood helps out a LOT. Having the grain alligned to aid the curve made a huge difference. I've got some more tightening up and I will be seaming those edges. You can see I also made a mistake with some gaps at the front of the recess, but nothing to difficult to fill in.
