: So I figured I'd share with you all the near completion of the cockpit
: recessed area of my S&G whitewater build. I knew going into it that the
: cockpit recess would not only be the hardest part, but also the most
: important for the overall appearance and performance of the boat. The
: tricky part about this, is all of my design ideas were hand drawn, as
: FreeShip was proving difficult to properly model in the design. I figured
: instead of wasting time on the computer, I would just design the thing by
: hand and have at it.

: The best trick I learned along the way, was that when trying to design and
: fit in these small pieces with relatively tight curves, using the wood
: grain of the Okoume plywood helps out a LOT. Having the grain alligned to
: aid the curve made a huge difference. I've got some more tightening up and
: I will be seaming those edges. You can see I also made a mistake with some
: gaps at the front of the recess, but nothing to difficult to fill in.

Specially for a white water boat I think I'd want to get rid of the "points" at the forward mid cockpit point. Looks like something you'd hit often with the hand/paddle.
