Funny, I did a Google search for bender ply and the KBB thread was on the first page:

This stuff is mostly used by cabinet makers. In my work I often design custom cabinetry, and I got my ply from the cabinet maker I work with. He had a scrap. I think if you call up the plywood specialty places near you, and/or local cabinet shops, you can score some. It's funky stuff. I have since used it for a coaming riser, for which it is eminently suited, and painted the riser black with poster paint before epoxying, the wood was so ugly. With more time (and patience) I could have lined the coaming riser with hardwood veneer--which would be pretty simple.

The 1/4-inch bending ply I used has three layers, with the outer layers running "cross grain" to facilitate bending. In a pinch, you could probably make your own by ripping the outer layers off a strip of regular 5-ply. Just an idea.
