The ideal would be expensive, course you knew that

I've got to build trees for mine this year, but I also use it for the bikes (motorcycles) so can't have a centered rear tree.

Our club inherited a 12 kayak trailer this past year that works pretty well though it has 12" tires that I wouldn't have if I'd had built it, 13" minimum for me anyway. It's all welded 1 1/4" square tube (round corners) that is very strong though not real light.

I'll be interested following this thread as I too am looking for ideas for mine.
