I have a tortured plywood Yare, A S&G Cheap Canoe and an 8 ft.sailing pram. The Yare is 3mm plywood has been lightly used for about 10 years and has glass on the keel seam but nowhere else. I usually climb in with the boat floating by using a bridge to protect the bottom. The keel seam requires 2 layers of glass which take up most of the wear and tear. The Cheap Canoe had an unglassed bottom but for about 7 years but it got chewed up every time I ran a rapid so I finally glassed it to reduce required maintainence. The pram can't be sailed in shallow water and I usually don't board until I'm in knee-deep water or on a mud or sandy bank. It's about 4 years old and the bare portions of the bottom haven't suffered on scratch that has gotten into the plywood yet. I worked like hell to keep the weight of the pram down to 65 lb. and the last thing I would do is to add epoxy and glass and make it even harder to get up on my roofrack.

Has anyone built an S&G by just glass taping the seams and not glassing the
: entire boat? I know it would not be as strong, just curious as to whether
