Thanks Jay, and everyone who posted comments. So far, I've managed to make two mistakes that are bugging me:
(and I'll try to post photos when I get home tonight)
1. My centerline strips got pulled off center as they run from the bow to the cockpit area. The bow parts are attached, but at the center of the boat I'll need one extra strip on one side. This is for the front only, and since the centerline will get broken up by the cockpit I think I can live with it (after reading the replies in this post)
2. The "pinches" at bow and stern are a mess. My initial plan was to plane the hull shear strips flat to be aligned with my end forms, then to lay my centerline strips effectively perpendicular to the shear strips at the tips. A photo will make this more clear, it's difficult to describe but the end result is that I have some odd angled gaps at bow and stern that strips don't fill.
My first option will likely be to fill these gaps and over-planed areas with dookie, and see how it looks. The idea of applying a veneer or something as a cover plate for about 6" of the ends may also work. Is this process documented somewhere, so that I could see what it might look like?
: Camouflaging errors is definitely a skill. Are you saying that you have a
: center accent strip that no longer will arrive at the bow tip? One thing
: you can do is make a bow end piece of dark wood. This would be a
: triangular end piece that would be the bow deck tip and perhaps extend
: back 6" or so. Rob Max used to do that on his boats for another
: reason but it's a nice accent design item and in your case it would hide
: the mistake. If you just have accents that will no longer centered, don't
: worry, once you put in hatches and bungee cords etc. it will be well
: hidden.
: I once put an inlay in an area that got screwed up. People were always
: complimenting me on the inlay.
