I just happened across this site. This guy builds a geodesic frame of cardboard and then 'glasses over it to make a cardboard-framed surfboard. The result is a cool translucent board. He apparently stretches pre-soaked fiberglass over the frame, which sounds to me very messy and difficult, but it seems to work.

Perhaps it would be difficult to design a kayak this way, but it just shows what one can do when they throw away traditional thought and get creative. Actually now that I think about it, I guess this is technically a skin-on-frame surfboard!
