It was more for other people; I wasn't trying to rub your nose in it.

That's the way I've always done things and I was skeptical, but if you use the Lie-Nielsen method, it works really well with just the two stones.

That's understandable, but when my current stones wear out, I'm probably going to replace them with single-grit stones.

The kit is a good deal, no doubt. If it didn't have a granite surface plate for flattening, I'd get the ceramic stone. I actually bought one from another vendor, but it wasn't flat, so it was useless and I returned it. As it turns out, the 12" x 18" granite surface plate was actually cheaper than the ceramic flattening stone and it's useful for a variety of purposes.
