: The cost is what makes it exotic. Anyone can pop for a yard of the
: stuff to do a coaming surface, but when it comes to a whole
: boat... it suddenly has a deadly bacterium within the weave.
: Way back when I road raced motorcycles, anything made of machined
: titanium was frequently referred to as either exotic, or
: unobtanium. For good reason, lots of parts on any racing bike
: were not milled from titanium, but rather from considerably
: "less exotic", 6061 aluminum billet. The same reality
: exists for the builders of wooden, vs foam and carbon, boats.
: If you can't easily and inexpensively come by the material, it is
: exotic. Don't shoot the messenger.
: The same would be true for anyone who chooses to build a stripper
: from Brazilian Rosewood, or any of the costly items shown on
: this list...

I think for most builders the potential weight savings is wildly offset by both the cost and the complexity of using it correctly. If it requires a mold that doubles the cost easily and adds a huge amount of time to the project.
