Skin-on-Frame: Multiple chine placement - SOF canoe

I'm attempting to build a SOF tandem canoe in the fuselage (Yost) style. This is only my second build (1st being a Yost Sea Tour) and the first time I've tried to design something myself. It's designed to be a fairly fast cruiser; 18' with a 32" water line and minimal rocker (2.5" in bow and 1.5" in stern). The sections are cut out and the gunwales and keelson are strapped on, everything's looking good so far.

But now it's time to start placing the chines and any advice on how to do it would be much appreciated. The software I designed the boat with (Kayak Foundry) doesn't do multi-chined hulls so my hull shape is rounded instead of angular. I'm thinking it should still be possible to place them anyway but any pointers would be great. I'm sure a lot of it comes down to how it looks by eye, guesswork, and experience. I've got eyes and guesswork but experience is what I'm lacking. There must be some general guidelines when it comes to placing chines. I'm thinking 2 or 3 per side.

From other designs I've looked at on-line it appears they're a little higher at the bow and stern but otherwise fairly flat, true? Is/should their placement be related to waterline or sheer height (i.e. should a given chine remain 2" below water line from bow to stern or could it start above water line and drop below in the middle of the boat)?

I'll go play with it for a while and check back later.

Thanks,

Alan
