That sure was a beautiful little craft he turned out.
I loved the parts where he was showing things to the little boy. Reminds me of my Grandfather showing me things. If not for my Grandfather, I think it would be unlikely I'd be building boats today...
And, I agree, seems a shame to waste that much wood.
