I did quite specifically say:

And since the forum had stopped working, he had to do it with
zero notice to everyone, and got the forum back up very quickly,
no doubt with very little spare time to try to customise it to a more
familiar look-and-feel. No criticism of Nick is intended - but everyone
needs good feedback to know whether they are wasting their time. As
a web-site maintainer I find it is like getting blood out of a stone even
to get people to report obvious errors and broken links, let alone to say
whether they are happy with the site as a whole. I'm just asking now,
since there is not quite the same urgency to fix an outage, whether the
old profiles can be made available temporarily for people to update from.
I thought profiles were a useful part of the site, and whilst a kick up the
proverbial to update them is good, a total absence is probably less good !

I notice that the new version of the forum comes with a "Trouble ticket"
link which sends email to Nick. In effect, it's a route to ask Nick to fix things
which may or may not really be his fault. I hope this doesn't cause a lot of
grief and extra work (even ignoring email is _some_ work...). The one
thing I miss about this forum (and again, it is something the software
doesn't provide, not something Nick has failed us on) is the ability to
go back into my own posts to change a link. So many archive searches
lead to pages whose images are no longer there or whose links no
longer work, and this will certainly include a few of my own, which I
could fix if there was some editing function, but wouldn't want to ask
Nick to fix with all the work involved. Yes, I could post a reply with a
revised link, but this would tend to fill the active forum and look like
self-publicity which is not really the intent.
