Our local paddling group (Stateline Paddlers) is finally planning on doing the "fog bowl" on New Years Day this coming year (Jan.1, 2010). We've talked about this for a few years and have never gone. If you're anywhere near southern Wisconsin this is a great chance to get out when it's cold outside and not completely freeze to death and maybe meet some other paddlers that might be a little, um.."different", paddling in the snow :)
Lake Columbia is a cooling "pond" about 2 miles long for the local power plant so stays pretty warm year round. Running from about 55 degrees away from the power plant to near 80 near it in January. If there is little wind there is usually a pretty thick fog at the surface of the lake, thus the name.

btw, I tried to post this on the "trips" section and it's appartly not up yet.
