Better be a real good friend if you run maple through his planer. ;o)

I cut a maple down earlier this year and saved some slices. 24" x 2". I took them down to Homestead Hardwoods and ran one of them through their 24" planer. He ran it through a bunch of times. Didn't really do much but burn the wood. It would get stuck and he would push and push. Only to get stuck again. I did get the idea to make cutting boards of the ones that split. Thx for the idea of mineral oil. I was wondering what to cover it with.
