The Sea Tour 17 EXP or Nikumi would likely be your best choice ( of my boats), if you are a larger paddler.
You could make the decks taller if needed for additional gear storage.

On the other hand, I see no reason why Brian's F1 should present you with any construction issues.
Build the boat that is best for you.
