I absolutely love the Kajak Sport deck fittings. They are simple, clean, and durable. After years in the hot sun they have not faded or cracked at all. I am a big fan of safety lines run all the way around the deck, with a line running behind the cockpit for towing. (I actually had a situation where I had to tow a badly injured kayaker and that came in very handy.) On the line behind the cockpit I spliced two interlocking loops in the middle right behind the cockpit to which I keep a very large caribiner and a long length of line. I was out at an island off St. John and my friend decided to wade into the water and stepped on sea urchins. She then fell backwards and her hands went on them too. Hands and feet covered in spines! I had to tow her back to shore and was prepared to do so thanks to planning ahead with my deck rigging and with having line and 'biners on hand.
Definately do the drill, fill, and drill again method. It works. The kajak sport fittings use a stainless machine screw through the deck. It means drilling some holes, but the look of the fittings once done is very clean, and very durable.
Newfound Woodworks has them, and Newfound is very reputable, friendly, and helpful.
