S&G: Lightweight layup

Hello fellow builders,

If this is one of those topics already covered, please accept my apology and direct me to the right thread. I DID try to search it first. I'm starting my second S&G, my fourth boat. Its the new Pygmy "Pinguino Sport". I like to keep my boats as light as possible without becoming fragile. I am careful in construction, use, and transport of my boats. This boat will be used on Lake Champlain, for recreational paddling, no expeditions or big coastal waters. The standard layup for this boat is 6 oz. cloth inside and out. Is there a way to use some 4 oz. cloth instead, to lighten the boat, without seriously compromising strength?
